Speakeasies, Pietinis, Stumbling Monks, & Malaysian Street Food (aka Your Guide to a Night Out on Olive Way in Capitol Hill)

Everyone already knows about the nightlife scene on Pine and Pike in Capitol Hill—it’s where people head for live music, too many drinks, and of course prime people watching. But Olive Way has a whole world of its own happening (even though it’s just a couple blocks from Pike and Pine!).
Olive Way starts at Broadway and for the purpose of this blog post we’ll say it cuts off at about Melrose/Interstate-5—because that’s technically where Capitol Hill ends and South Lake Union begins anyway!
Below you’ll find recommendations that’ll take you from dinner and drinks to karaoke and dive bars… all the way until breakfast the next morning!
Can’t start a night out on an empty stomach, so be sure to grab dinner first. In the mood for something on the cheaper side? Stop by Carmelo’s Tacos or grab a slice at Dino’s Tomato Pie. For something a bit more unique, stop by Yalla for Middle Eastern cuisine (plus they’re open until 1am!).
For a sit-down meal, Dacha Diner is another mouthwatering choice with Eastern European flavors on the menu. Try Malaysian-inspired food at Kedai Makan, or fuel up for the evening ahead at In the Bowl for vegetarian Thai food or at BlueStone Bistro for Korean food!
Stumbling Monk is a neighborhood staple and has been around for 20+ years, and a must-visit for beer aficionados. For a classic dive bar atmosphere, pop into Hillside Bar or Montana, or the hipster cousin Revolver Bar (vinyl lovers will appreciate the decor here).
For a different flavor, Kessler’s Sports Bar is perfect when your in search of a fun way to watch a game or match, and next door is C.C. Attle’s, a gay bar with lots of greasy bar food on the menu.
Knee High Stocking Co. is your classic speakeasy experience, and it’s quite possible that you’ve driven by it a million times and never noticed the door to it. Here you’ll find a menu filled with craft (read: pricey) cocktails and a selection of food items as well.
After you’ve had a few drinks, you’ll be ready to take on karaoke at Hula Hula, a tiki bar with a huge menu of tiki drinks (mai tais, bowl drinks, frozen delights, etc.)!
Have you ever had a “Pietini” before? Yes, think pie + martini. Well, here’s your chance… Pie Bar doesn’t just serve pie, they serve a selection of pie-inspired cocktails. There’s frequently a line out the door but it’s worth the wait. If your sweet tooth is acting up you can also stop by Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery which is exactly like it sounds. Decadent desserts and boozy dessert drinks can be enjoyed out on the patio around a fire on a warm summer’s night here!
The next morning (or afternoon…) when you roll out of bed, Olive Way has a couple of popular breakfast choices. Grab something quick at Crumble & Flake Patisserie (Smoked Paprika Cheddar Croissant… what?) or enjoy brunch at Glo’s, an iconic breakfast spot that every Seattleite should try at least once.
